When one is out to find that “perfect job” the last thing on one’s mind would be fashion sense. Unfortunately, it is a myth to think that only the brain will sell itself while the interviewer is looking sadly at muddy shoes and that unkempt hairstyle that a rocker would die for.

So, what to wear to an interview really does have an impact? Indeed, it does! Every company has an image to uphold, especially if they have a marketing strategy they need to launch, or that big product that sells like hotcakes. So, keeping this in mind, one really must respect the fact that the office is not the place to wear that super hot mini skirt, or the cool looking tattered jeans that were on sale just a couple of days ago.

Women’s interviews should go off without a hitch if they dress conservatively and win the respect of the male or female interviewer. Solid colors with color coordinated matches, including that clean cut professional looking hairstyle are a definite must. The perfume and make up has to stay light to avoid distracting the interviewer, as well as impeccably clean fingernails.

Male candidates for interview should more or less follow the example of conservative dress, with dark, solid colors and coordinated ties that are not glaring or outlandishly loud. Limit the jewelry, remove the earrings and nose rings please! A bit less cologne and not too aggressive on the aftershave and most especially clean fingernails. That should at least warrant a fighting chance at that coveted job.
